چکیده

Given a sparse set of feature matches, we want to compute an interpolated dense displacement map. The application may be stereo disparity computation, ow computation, or non-rigid medical registration. Also estimation of missing image data, may be phrased in this framework. Since the features often are very sparse, the interpolation model becomes crucial. We show that a maximum likelihood estimation based on the covariance properties (Kriging) show properties more expedient than methods such as Gaussian interpolation or Tikhonov regularizations, also including scale-selection. The computational complexities are identical. We apply the maximum likelihood interpolation to growth analysis of the mandibular bone. Here, the features used are the crest-lines of the object surface.

Radial Basis Network for Facial Expression Synthesis

| Many multimedia applications require the synthesis of facial expressions. We demonstrate the synthesis of di erent degrees of various 2D grayscale facial expressions using the Radial Basis Function (RBF) neural network. The RBF network is used to generate spatial displacement of a set of facial feature points as in multidimensional density interpolation. We have implemented two RBF networks f...

Concrete crack detection through full-field displacement and curvature measurements by visual mark tracking: A proof-of-concept study

In this study, a noncontact vision-based sensing method is proposed to measure surface displacements and curvatures and to detect cracks in a reinforced concrete slab. The proposed method includes five independent modules for structure boundary identification by a dynamic programming algorithm, boundary movement tracking by a contour tracking algorithm, distinguishable surface feature detection...

Denney and Prince : Reconstruction of 3 D Left Ventricular Motion

| Magnetic resonance (MR) tagging has shown great potential for noninvasive measurement of the motion of a beating heart. In MR tagged images, the heart appears with a spatially encoded pattern that moves with the tissue. The position of the tag pattern in each frame of the image sequence can be used to obtain a measurement of the 3D displacement eld of the myocardium. The measurements are spar...

Combining Variational and Feature-based Methods for Motion Estimation

Variational methods currently belong to the most accurate techniques for the recovery of the optic flow of an image sequence. Major contributions have been made in the last years to both their accuracy and their real-time performance. Most of the efforts to improve the accuracy of these methods have focused on the design of new data terms and smoothness terms that enter the energy functional. S...

Sub-pixel Precision Image Matching for Displacement Measurement of Mass Movements Using Normalised Cross-correlation

This study evaluates the performance of two fundamentally different approaches to achieve sub-pixel precision of normalised crosscorrelation when measuring surface displacements on mass movements from repeat optical images. In the first approach, image intensities are interpolated to a desired sub-pixel resolution using a bi-cubic interpolation scheme prior to the actual displacement matching. ...
